While this is not my first presidential election, this year I have been paying extra attention to what the candidates have really been saying. For me the race is more than Republican versus Democratic and Black versus White. As American society continues to lose momentum, the issues are becoming more important.
As a first year seminarian student, for the first time I am responsible for acquiring my own health insurance since I am no longer covered through my mother, I obtain my own student loans and find a job in a new area. In the land that we so often have called the home of the free and the land of opportunities, none of these things have come easy, much less free.
There are many young adults across the country in a similar situation, and sadly there are even more individuals and families who are in a more precarious situation than I could ever imagine. Because of these sad realities I have placed my confidence in Barack Obama. I believe that he has the skill, faith, and leadership abilities to lead us in a direction that we have not experienced in the past eight years: a more stable economy, equal and adequate health insurance for all, increased job opportunities and equal education opportunities for children.
It will be interesting to see how the country decides to vote because of personal opinions and biases, but as for me, I have and will continue to support Barack Obama.
